Most people hope that their relationship or marriage was meant to be and will last forever. In reality, this isn’t always the case. According to a study conducted by Health Testing Centers, 46.1% of participants said they have cheated in a relationship. The amount of time it takes for a cheater to tell their partner ranges depending on gender, their relationship status, and other factors. However, most who aren’t faithful to their spouse or partner eventually confess their actions.
Do you believe that your partner is cheating on you? Learn about the signs of infidelity that you should be on the lookout for.
What Is Infidelity?
First, what exactly is infidelity? Infidelity is when someone who is in a relationship or marriage has an emotional and/or physical affair with another person. Most people associate kissing or having sex with another as infidelity. However, there are many other actions that qualify as infidelity as well. These actions include:
- Going on a date.
- Flirting on social media or dating apps.
- Talking with an ex.
- Getting an STD from intimate relations with another.
- Getting pregnant with another person’s child.
- Confiding in another about your personal life and relationship instead of with your partner.
6 Red Flags Your Partner Isn’t Being Faithful
Constantly Calling, Texting, or Talking About Another Person
Does your partner constantly reference a person you don’t know? Do you notice that they are calling or texting the same phone number almost every day? If they are doing both or even one of these things, it could mean that they’re cheating on you. Cheaters often mistakenly feel the need to bring up the person they’re cheating with in general conversation as if they were a friend.
Lack of Intimacy
If your partner is being unfaithful in a physical manner, they will likely demonstrate a lack of interest in intimacy. They will kiss you less, try to skip out on date nights, and make excuses not to have sex.
They’re Possessive of Their Phone
Cheaters today often use their cell phone as a way to communicate with the one they’re cheating with. Phone calls, private messaging apps, video chats, social media, and more. So, if your partner is suddenly possessive of their phone and their use of it, something may be going on.
Decreased Interest In Your Life
When you’re in a relationship, it’s natural to have an interest in your partner’s life and what they’re up to. What are they up to at work? How are their friends doing? However, if someone is cheating, this interest typically decreases as their attention is focused elsewhere.
They Care More About Their Appearance
Just like when someone is single and dating around, a person who is unfaithful wants to look their best. They may start working out more and lose weight. They will likely update their wardrobe, get a new haircut, and take time to do their makeup (for women).
They’re Working Late or Taking Business Trips Regularly
A common excuse many people in a relationship use to explain anything is that they are working. They may say they need to stay late at work to deal with a client, or have to go on a work-related trip to a conference. They’re specific enough to convince you, but vague enough not to cause you to do more digging.
After reading this, do you think your partner is unfaithful to you? Before jumping to conclusions, simply talk to your partner about what’s going on and your relationship concerns. There might be an answer to what’s been going on other than infidelity.
